Stanford "Jib" Lloyd Sayles

October 17, 1937 — May 22, 2022

Stanford Lloyd “Jib” Sayles passed away, Sunday, May 22, 2022 due to complications from a stroke. Jib was surrounded by his devoted family and was celebrated with stories and anecdotes of a long and blessed life.

Jib was born in Redondo Beach, California to two loving parents, Stan and Winifred “Lloydie” Hall Sayles.

Jib lived in California with his parents and two sisters, Sharon and Wanda “Nonie” in his early years. He learned a love of fishing from his father who was a commercial fisherman before he moved into construction. Jib’s family also spent many years in Utah and eventually moved to Illinois; where Jib graduated from Metropolis High School in 1955.

Jib moved back to California after graduation and met the love of his life and future wife, Joan Kellett. They were married in 1960.

Jib worked in construction most of his life. He worked as a surveyor, operating engineer and pipefitter on various commercial construction sites prior to joining Bechtel Power Corp as a piping engineer. With Bechtel, he was involved with the construction of many different projects throughout the southwest US. He and Joan also worked in New Zealand for a short period of time. Jib left Bechtel in 1994 and he and Joanie retired in Springerville, Arizona near family and friends.

Jib always had a twinkle in his eye and a witty comment to impart. His ever-present laugh was very contagious. He was an optimistic, fun-loving and good natured man; much loved by his family and many, many friends. Jib loved to golf, go bass fishing, watch Dodger’s baseball, travel and spend time with his family. He was very patriotic and an avid supporter of veteran’s causes. Jib was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 38 in Fountain, Colorado and an honorary member of the American Legion Riders.

Jib was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents and his sister, Sharon (Wally) Pierce.

He is survived by his sister, Wanda (Michael) Snyder, sister-in-law (and best buddy!), Jeanie (Richard) Ayersman, his daughters, Vicki (Derrek) Goin, Robin (Chuck) Brown, his son, Stan (Kristen) Sayles, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rest in peace, Papa, you will be greatly missed. You were a huge part of all of our lives and we are all very blessed to have loved you.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his two favorite causes. Donations may be made to the Sons of the American Legion Post 38, 6685 Southmoor Dr., Fountain, Colorado 80817 and The ALS Association AZ Chapter, 360 E Coronado Rd. #140, Phoenix, Arizona 85004.
