William Alvin Laney, died peacefully at home on the 7Y Ranch in Luna, New Mexico, Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the age of 90. Alvin is survived by his wife, Ruby Laney, his four sons, Russell (Lillie), Dale, Jerry (Joyce), Kit (Kirsten) Laney, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his sister, Sonny Allred. He was preceded in death by 6 siblings. Alvin was born on March 14, 1927 in Luna, New Mexico to Albert Woodward Laney and Edith Russell Laney. He married Ruby Carrel Derrick in 1951. Alvin was a WWII Navy Veteran and after returning home from service had many occupations including logging with a horse team, but his true love and life’s work was being a cowboy and rancher. Alvin set about sharing his love of cattle and the land with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quick wit, the twinkle in his eye and his generous and gentle heart. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. (NM Time) at the Luna Cemetery, Luna, New Mexico.
