Virginia Joyce Barrett Rogers

October 4, 1924 — February 3, 2025

Nutrioso

Virginia Joyce Barrett Rogers, 100 years old, passed away, Monday, February 3, 2025 in Orem, Utah. She was born October 4, 1924 in Bountiful, Utah, the daughter of Edward Lewis Barrett and Jeannette Ostlund.

She was the youngest of 4 children. Her fondest memories were climbing the big hill from the center of town and sliding down with her brothers and sister. The top of that hill is now where the Bountiful Temple sits. At age 12, because of the depression, their family moved to the San Francisco area so their dad could find work.

Virginia met Richard at a dance to support the servicemen at the beginning of World War II in the Pacific. They became engaged and he shipped out for 3 long years in the Navy. They wrote daily and they kept over 500 letters each to show their love and endurance. They are compiled in over 20 notebooks. They were married and traveled with her sister to the Salt Lake City Temple to be sealed.

After the war Virginia’s sister and brother moved to Iowa and Boston so their families lived apart from one another. Virginia and Richard moved to Arizona, by bus. She followed Richard around the state of Arizona is his work. Together they remodeled or built 5 homes. They settled in Nutrioso in 1968. Virginia lived there until she needed extra help.

Virginia served in many church callings and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Richard in Mexico. Her greatest joy was doing genealogy from her late childhood until she could not do it anymore. She wrote 3 genealogy books; one for her family and 2 for Richard’s. She would sew most anything needed and learned what needed to be done on the house: paint, tile and decorating. She loved making caramels and dipping them in chocolate and she would make sure we all had her caramel’s for Christmas. She loved her children and grandchildren. They remember learning many things from her.

Virginia is survived by her son, Buddy Rogers, Wilder, Idaho; daughters, Peggy Porter, Orem, Utah; Marla Fuentes, Nutrioso; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded n death by her beloved husband, Richard Rogers, sister, Margaret Dietz, brothers, Ed Barrett, Bob Barrett and grandson, Chase Fuentes.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Rogers Family Cemetery, Nutrioso, Arizona.
