Tranquilino Gutierrez Padilla, Jr. passed away, Thursday, December 30, 2021. Known warmly as “Junior” to those around him, Tranquilino Gutierrez Padilla was born November 25, 1932 in St. Johns, Arizona to Tranquilino Sanchez Padilla, Sr. and Ramona Josefita “Josie” Gutierrez, the first of five children in the family. Tranquilino was a dreamer, entrepreneur and father with many loves, interests and talents.
He met his future wife, Dolores Savedra while attending high school in Grants, New Mexico. Upon graduating he married and attended Lamson Business College. Determined to be his own boss, Tranq developed a knack for sales. Beginning with selling tamales for his mother in Arizona, he continued a wide range of business ventures and adventures. These included a parking company and restaurant in Hawaii as well as a tortilla factory and boulder business in New Mexico.
Wherever he wandered, New Mexico was always home. He loved the flavors the southwest state had to offer; red and green chili, pinon nuts and chocolate. He loved the people there more. Being able to speak Spanish fluently, Tranq would tell anyone willing to listen a story or two especially a good fishing story from time to time.
He loved God and treasured his faith. This faith began under the careful instruction of his parents in the Catholic church and grew as he converted later to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was the proud father to six children: Joanne, Robert, Richard, Daniel (Delores), Linda (Cody) Eldridge, Andrea (Mark) Imprescia, grandfather to 12 grandchildren and great grandfather to many more.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a younger brother, Joseph, younger sister, Ruth, wife, Dolores Savadra, son, Richard, daughter, Joanne and great grandson, Ryken.
