Richard Arlen New, 78, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 in Show Low. He was born March 9, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Arlie Everett New and Mary Margaret Black New.
Richard began his career as a professional Nascar driver; racing sprint and midget cars for over 20 years. After retiring from Nascar, he started “New Performance”, an automotive machine shop and never stopped working. He was an automotive machinist for 60 years. Not only did Richard love his cars, he also loved his wife Ronna New dearly and they were married for 61 years. When Richard wasn’t working on cars he was playing pool with his family, fishing, making bird houses and eating his favorite food, biscuits and gravy.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ronna Lee New, sons, Chad Everett New, Brian Lee New, Donald Arlen New, daughter, Tamala Kay New, sisters, Brenda Arnold, Linda Sample, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandchildren, Cash Braden New and Cherish Faith New.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Downtown Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the funeral services at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
