Raymond C. Montoya, 73, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 in Phoenix. He was born August 17, 1948 in St. Johns, the son of Asiano Montoya and Leonsa Chavez.
Raymond was a zanjero for Salt River Project, retiring in 2011.
Raymond was an amazing father and husband that was loving and wise beyond his years. He was devoted to his family and loved going to the Chavez reunion. He loved playing his guitar and enjoyed being outdoors working at the Chavez cattle ranch.
Raymond is survived by his fiance’, Merlinda Chavez, former wife, Christina Barreras, sons, Manuel Montoya, Gabriel Montoya, Christopher Montoya, daughter, Denise Diaz, sisters, Alberta Apodaca-Brice, Barbara Apodaca, Stella, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Virginia Van Houten, Gloria Moreno, Vivian Sanchez, Roberta Wilson and son, Raymond A. Montoya.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns, followed by Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterwards. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow the services at the St. Johns Catholic Church. A luncheon will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Catholic Hall.
