Cynthia Peña, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully; leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity and unwavering strength. Born on October 5, 1950 to Ben Peña Chavez and Alice Saiz, Cynthia grew up on Water Street in St. Johns, Arizona where she spent her childhood surrounded by cousins and friends. She attended Holbrook High School before graduating from St. Johns High School.
On May 30, 1970, she married the love of her life, George Peña and together they built a beautiful family, raising their two children, Mike and Alicia. Cynthia was a genuine and radiant soul whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives. She poured her heart into her community, serving as a CYO leader, organizing the craft bazaar and bringing joy through events like the haunted house at the old Barth Motel and the St. Johns Fiestas program and dance.
Cynthia had an incredible talent for crafts, from making beautiful wreaths to teaching others the joy of creativity. She was a gifted baker who taught herself cake decorating; turning her passion into a small business that brought joy to many through stunning wedding cakes, birthday cakes and delicious desserts. She and her sister, Evelyn also mastered the art of making gingerbread houses from scratch; a tradition that Cynthia lovingly continued by gifting them to families each holiday season.
She was a proud member of the Chavez Reunion Committee and remained active in her community. Cynthia cherished her time in St. Johns where she and George continued to enjoy life together, creating, crafting and taking peaceful drives through town.
A fighter in every sense of the word, Cynthia was a breast cancer survivor; having first been diagnosed in 2010. She bravely faced metastatic breast cancer with grace and resilience; inspiring those around her with her unwavering spirit.
Cynthia leaves behind a loving family including her husband, George, her children, Mike and Alicia, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her warmth, generosity and beautiful smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The Peña family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. Cynthia’s love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon her. Heaven has truly gained an angel.
