Norma Burgess Coddington

July 19, 1944 — February 7, 2025

Eagar

Norma Burgess Coddington was born July 19, 1944 at the home of her Aunt Dell Merrill in Eagar, Arizona. Norma’s parents were Deral Burgess and Angeline Skousen Burgess, ranchers of Eagar and Alpine in Apache County, Arizona. She was named after her mother’s brother, Norman Skousen. Norma passed away, Friday, February 7, 2025 visiting relatives in Bakersfield, California.

Soon after birth Norma and her family moved to the A. H. Karpe Angus Ranch where her father was a foreman. The family later moved to the Diamond Bar Ranch in California, where her father was again a foreman. When the Diamond Bar Ranch was sold to become a master planned community, her father went to work on a big ranch in Nevada while Norma and her siblings and mother lived in Walnut. The Nevada ranch was over 50 miles from school and church so the family had to remain behind in Walnut.

Norma attended college at BYU. She worked at a bank in Whittier, California for many years before meeting Chris. They married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple in 1979 before Chris whisked her away to Utah. They lived in Sandy until Chris retired and it made more sense to return to Eagar with Norma’s mother. Chris and Norma cared for Angeline for 10 or so years before Angeline’s death.

Norma loved reading obituaries, even in her earlier years. If you asked why she’d usually tell you it was so she’d find out if she had died. It might really have been because she loved learning about people! Norma also loved cooking, sewing, quilting, decorating for holidays and reading her scriptures.

Norma is survived by her husband, Chris, daughters, Melissa, Kaia, step-children, Keavin, Darin, Kimberly, grandchildren, Aspen, Luke, Josh, Tyler, Emma, Jessie, Nicole, Crystal, Faith, Danielle, sister, Kathie and brother, Wayne.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Deral and Angeline Burgess, daughter, Marcella, sister, Rowena Martin and grandson, Clay.

Norma was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Amity building, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Alpine Cemetery.
