Neal Harris Phelps, II, 88, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 in Tempe. He was born June 20, 1929 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Neal Harris Phelps, Sr. and Esther Harriett Carr Phelps.
Neal served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-1977. He was an electrical engineer, loved motorcycles and was an avid tennis player; playing till he was 84 years old!! He owned his own Cessna and loved to fly!! Neal was awarded 2 Meritorious Achievement Awards while serving in the Air Force.
Neal is survived by his sons, Neal Harris Phelps, III, West Haven, Utah; Thomas Justin Phelps, Orem, Utah; daughters, Forrest Cook, Greenway, Arkansas; Lynne Marie Ramirez, Tempe; Ann Lorane Lange, Colorado Springs, Colorado; 32 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gary C. Phelps, sister, Lorane P. Shirley, wife, Arla May Overson and grandson, Garret Michael Ramirez.
A Viewing will be held Friday, May 18, 2018 from 8:45-9:45 a.m. at Burnham Mortuary, St. Johns. A Graveside Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
