Malcolm C. Silva, 90, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 in Springerville. He was born December 16, 1926 in Silver City, New Mexico, the son of Philomeno Silva and Zella Maxwell Silva. Malcom was the owner of a variety of businesses in Springerville, such as a gas station, a second hand store and Malcolm Silva Trucking which eventually turned into M.S. Construction. He was also a hunting guide and instructor for hunter safety courses for many years and a substitute mail clerk. Malcolm was one of the last surviving original members of the Springerville Chamber of Commerce and was a past member of the Springerville Rotary Club. Malcolm was honored by the Round Valley Chamber of Commerce with the Life-long Service Award in 2015. He served with honor in the United States Army Medical 20th Infantry as a surgical technician in the Korean Conflict and was decorated with the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal, Japan. All of Malcolm’s girls knew they were the favorite when they all had their individual time with their papa. He was the happiest when he was teaching his girls how to hunt and fish. Malcolm is survived by his wife, Susie Silva, Springerville; son, Scott (Erin) Silva, Springerville; daughters, Patty (Greg) Orona, Springerville; Sandra Silva, Tucson; grandchildren, Jenny (Rafael Cossio) Orona, Missy (Justin) Erhart, Haley Silva, Richard Thompson, great grandchildren, Keila Orona, Adabelle Cossio, Kendrie Walker, Kelci Walker, Dyllan Erhart and Isabella Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Phil Silva and sisters, Mickey Reister and Loween Wood. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Compassus, 1789 W. Commerce Dr., Lakeside, Arizona 85929. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 11, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at the Momentum Life Church (formerly Assembly of God) 1359 E. Main St., Springerville.
