James “Jim” Dewey Thornhill, 74, a resident of St. Johns, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021. He was born November 9, 1946 in Eloy, Arizona, the son of George Dudley Thornhill and Pauline Olive Waite.
Jim was a devoted family man who loved his kids and grandchildren. One of his favorite events was attending the Eugene Waite Family Reunion every year. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing with his family. Jim worked as a land surveyor for Apache County.
He loved his Savior, Jesus Christ and worked hard to please his Father in Heaven. Jim was a kind and generous man who gave of his time freely. He was a devoted husband who loved his wife with all his heart. She was his sweetheart.
Jim is survived by his wife, Genetta Thornhill, St. Johns; son, Donovan (Henrietta) Thornhill, Payson; son-in-law, James Baxter, Concho; grandsons, JB Thornhill, Queen Creek; Gage Baxter, St. Johns; granddaughters, Quincy Thornhill, Payson; Lily Thornhill, Mesa; Niki Baxter, Mesa; Natlie Baxter, Mesa; and sister, Shirley Conner, Queen Creek.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Thornhill, mother, Pauline McDowell, sisters, Dorthy Plumb, Olive Plumb, brothers, Marlow Plumb, Milton Plumb and daughter, Stacy Baxter.
A Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St Johns downtown chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
