Jacob “Buddy” Chavez was born July 6, 1937 to Mariano and Minnie Chavez. He passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by: Mary, Jacob, Aida, Armando, Paula and daughter, Nicole. grandchildren: Solomon, Gabe, Jacob and Robert, great grandchildren, Ryan, Remi, Max, Aiden, Brody, Rosie, Ava, Deacon and Cooper.
Jacob “Buddy” Chavez considered himself to be an educator and rancher. He held many positions in education, including the following: Apache County Superintendent, Principal of Landmark School, Alfredo Garcia School, Round Valley Consolidated, Springerville Elementary School, and Puerco Elementary School. He was also awarded the Arizona School Administrators Lifetime Achievement Award and was Chairman of the Northern Council of Governments.
Jacob had many hobbies such as hunting, dancing and ranching. He believed in the American dream and loved to hear about success stories. He made it very clear that hard work and a good education would provide a fulfilling occupation. His motivational words live on today through his students, nephews, nieces and sons.
Jacob will be dearly missed and remembered for the unconditional love he had for his family and friends.
A Viewing will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. with Rosary at 9:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns. Interment will follow the funeral mass at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
