Our beloved dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Ernest Garcia Jaramillo passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home in Phoenix where he lived for 55 years. He was born May 15, 1933 in St. Johns to Erasmo Justo and Baloy Jaramillo. Ernest was married to Mary Pena Jaramillo for 62 years.
Ernest served as a proud Marine in the Korean War from 1953-1956. His favorite story from his time in the service was seeing his brother, Dionisio (Niche) Jaramillo by chance. Niche was arriving as he was leaving his base. Ernest cherished the short visit he had with him and it felt like home for just a moment. He was a proud Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 41. Semper Fi! When he returned home he worked at the St. Johns public school as a custodian and bus driver.
June 9, 1956 Ernest married Mary Pena and they purchased their first home in St. Johns on Water Street. They started a family and had two sons and a daughter, Ernie, Della and Simon.
Ernest and Mary moved to Phoenix in 1966. Ernest became a member of the Carpenters Union and retired after 30 years. The family was complete when there youngest son Leandro (Leo) came along.
Ernest enjoyed watching sports, visiting with friends and neighbors and loved dancing with his beloved wife Mary. He also liked watches and anything “antique”. You could always find him sporting his famous V-neck white Hanes t-shirts, suspenders and blue wrangler jeans. Ernest had a sweet tooth and a love for ice cream he would always have a variety of flavors in the freezer.
The Jaramillo family would like to thank you for all your love and prayers.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Adella (Steve) Romero, sons, Simon Jaramillo, Leondro Jaramillo, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jaramillo, son, Ernie Jaramillo and his parents.
