Dennis "Deno" Franklin Burk

Dennis Franklin “Deno” Burk, 90, son of Charles Fredrick Burk and Vera Lund, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in Eagar.

He is survived by his sons, Rick Burk, Chuck Burk, brother, Evan Burk, sister, Chon Goodman, 12 grandchildren, Vickigene, Destinee, Calvin, Nicole, Dakota, Kasandra, Cliff, Jeb, Chance, Rhys, Tomee, Stephenie and 30 great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, stepfather, Calvin LeSueur, daughter, Kim Burk and brother, Merv Burk.

Deno was born in Eagar, Arizona on October 13, 1931. His childhood was spent ranching and farming in Milligan Valley and Springerville. He graduated from Round Valley High School in 1949 and was a decorated sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Nedra Brown in 1954 and had 3 children that he raised to love the mountains and their country.

Deno served as a law enforcement officer of 40 years in Apache County and was stationed in both St. Johns and Springerville. Of the 29 men who first formed a Sheriff’s posse in 1956, he was the last surviving member.

Deno loved riding horses, fishing, hunting, camping, a good dog, the smell of rain, good friends, traveling to his Korean War reunions, helping his step-father on his ranch in New Mexico, “elk in the field” and his family. What kept Deno going in his later years was his morning cup of coffee at the Saffire, worrying about the weather, a good Bacardi and coke in the evening and haying his neighbor’s fields. He was often seen just driving around town, looking for ways to serve his neighbors and friends. Deno had a tough exterior, with a heart of gold…and so it is.

A funeral service will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
