Lt Col David M. Scholl passed away peacefully, Monday, March 31, 2025 in Globe, Arizona, closing a remarkable chapter of love, service, adventure and quiet strength. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and a man whose gentle spirit made the world feel a little softer just by being in it.
David served over 20 years in the United States Air Force with unwavering dedication. As a Navigator, Maintenance Squadron Officer and later as an Electronic Warfare Officer, he wore many hats, always with humility and a deep sense of duty. After retiring from Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, he continued serving his country through work with a government contractor before eventually settling in Arizona. Though he took pride in his service, his heart always belonged to his family.
He was a deeply loving husband to Dutchey, his wife and best friend, who preceded him in death in 2023. Their bond was something steady and strong; the kind of love that anchored a family.
As a father he was the kind of dad who showed up for everything, not because he had to, but because there was nowhere else he’d rather be.
He never sought attention or recognition, yet his presence was felt deeply in every room he entered. To his son Chris, he wasn’t just a father. He was a best friend, a mentor, a fishing buddy and a steady guide through every stage of life. From camping trips to cross-country drives, deep talks under the stars to quiet mornings by the water; every moment shared was a lesson in love, strength and how to live with heart. The man he was shaped the man his son became and the memories they built together; full of laughter, stories and just being side by side will be carried forward forever.
Recently, he made the move to the mountains of Northern Arizona to be closer to his son Chris, and Chris’ partner Lisa and it was there that he found a fresh start. His son designed and built a home for him, nestled upon a mesa, with endless views in every direction and thoughtful touches in every beam and corner. It quickly became a place where he truly felt at peace. He embraced the beauty of the land, finding new friends, new trails and a rhythm of life that filled him with joy. Whether watching monsoon storms roll through or simply enjoying the quiet stillness of the mountains on a snowy day, he was exactly where he wanted to be; close to nature and even closer to the people he loved most.
David was also loved by two loyal pups, Scooby and Shaggy, who adored him just as much as he adored them. His bond with these two furry friends brought him immeasurable joy and was yet another reminder of the love and light he brought into the world.
David filled his days with the things that brought him joy. He was a gifted painter, capturing scenes with a quiet eye for beauty. He loved a good game of chess, always thinking three moves ahead. An avid reader, he was always lost in a good book, whether it was for knowledge or sheer enjoyment and most recently he took on amateur radio with the same quiet determination he brought to everything; earning his General License and already preparing to ace the Expert Exam.
Faith was the compass that guided his life. He loved God, not with loud words but through steady action, kindness and the way he treated others with respect, patience and warmth.
He was simply put, one of the most loving and gentle souls you could ever meet. He will be missed more than words can say by his family, his friends and anyone lucky enough to cross his path.
