Darin Stewart Nielsen, 54, passed away, Monday, December 12, 2022 in Springerville, Arizona. He was born December 20, 1967 in Springerville, to Edward Denny and Deanna Jerryne Phillips Nielsen.
Darin was very good with his hands and they were always busy; electronics, computers, woodworking, crocheting, writing music and authoring two books. He became very proficient in carving wooden chains out of small branches and pieces of wood; a skill he learned at the knee of his beloved Grandpa E.Z. Nielsen.
He was an Eagle Scout (with hours of help from his mother who was very active in the Scouting program) and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Santa Rosa, California in the 1980s. He later attended B.Y.U. in Provo, Utah before transferring to and graduating from ITT Tech. He worked for Call Business Systems in Salt Lake City for a few years before being recruited by IBM in California and worked for them for many years.
Darin moved to Springerville in 2015 and has resided there since. He worked for TAC Paving and Sealing in Show Low, Arizona. The family would like to thank them for their kindness towards Darin.
Darin loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing and spent many hours fishing with his Grandpa Stewart Phillips, for who he is named. He worked for many years helping his dad do all of the electrical wiring at the Whiting Motel and Whiting Brothers Gas Station in St. Johns.
He has now reunited with many loved ones including his father and both sets of grandparents.
Darin is survived by his mother, Deanna Nielsen, siblings, C. Jerrine (Brian) Hollien, E. Scott (Mona) Nielsen, Dennielle Dolly Patterson, beloved aunts, Connee Jackson and Berta Ann Rogers, as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
