Benina Salas Peña, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in St. Johns. She was born October 8, 1928 in McNary, the daughter of George Salas and Lola Casados.
Nina married Amado B. Peña on July 21, 1945 in St. Johns. Together they raised their family on their beloved Peña Ranch. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren and was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother and always enjoyed their company. Everyone was always welcome in her kitchen. Nina was a lifelong member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. For many years she was a dedicated member of the church choir and had a beautiful voice. She loved her gardening and was an avid reader and loved crocheting, quilting and sewing.
Nina is survived by her sons, George (Cynthia) Peña, St. Johns; Amado Peña, III, St. Johns; Anthony Peña, St. Johns; daughters, Patricia (Rick) Renner, St. Johns; Merlinda Chavez, St. Johns; brothers, Louie (Mary) Casados, Rowland Heights, California; Michael Casados, Pasadena, California; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Salas and Lola Casados, husband, Amado B. Peña, daughters, Dolores Peña, Virginia Peña, brother, Lonnie Casados and son-in-law, Johnny Chavez.
A Viewing will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns, with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterwards. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow the funeral mass at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held afterwards.
