Anthony Roy Madrid, 61, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 in St. Johns. He was born April 20, 1956 in Flagstaff, the son of Tony Madrid and Cecilia Madrid Pena.
Anthony went to elementary school in Flagstaff and high school in St. Johns, graduating in 1974. He joined the United States Navy in November of 1974 and served until 1976. He was based out of San Diego and stationed in the Philippines and was a water transporter on the USS St. Louis LKA-116. He was a carpenter and welder by trade and a member of the American Legion Greer-Dewitt Post #31 in St. Johns. Anthony played baseball, football and wrestled in high school. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and drawing and loved to dance. He also coached baseball. His favorite teams were the Denver Broncos and the Arizona Diamondbacks and he loved the songs, “Streeker” and “Go Your Own Way”. You will be truly missed….”character”.
Anthony is survived by his mother, Cecilia Pena, step-mother, Armira Ballejos, sons, Tony (Lisa) Madrid, Las Vegas, Nevada; Nick Madrid, Bolivar, Missouri; daughter, Monica Madrid, St. Johns; brothers, Ernest (Miriam) Ballejos, Tacoma, Washington; Longie Pat (Della Rae) Ballejos, Vail; Victor (Sandra) Padilla, St. Johns; Enselmo Padilla, South Dakota; Robert Galdean, Springerville; Louie Ballejos, Mesa; Stanley Ballejos, St. Johns; Matthew (Tracy) Ballejos, Bountiful, Utah; Eric (Heather) Ballejos, Eagar; sisters, Virginia Klingaman, St. Johns; Dolores (Steve) Chavez, Benson; Frances Mercado, Phoenix; Sandra (Mark) Westberg, Payson; Christina Baker, Payson; Martha Ballejos, Gilbert; Eloise Ballejos, Bountiful, Utah; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Madrid, grandparents, Antonio and Isabel Madrid, Manuel and Benina U. Pena, step-father, Longie Ballejos and brother, Raymond Ballejos.
Rosary will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns with a Memorial Mass following at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow the memorial mass at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
