Alfred Leon Otero, 52, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 in Show Low. He was born November 6, 1964 in Tucson, the son of Manuel and Ruby Leon Otero. Fred enjoyed and loved his family. He loved fishing, hunting and camping and loved to cook. Fred cooked for outfitters, weddings and family events. He loved coaching baseball and was a life-long Steelers fan. He loved riding his bike in these mountains in support of veterans and Wounded Warriors. Fred is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Otero, sons, Mike Lawhone, Alfred Otero, David Otero, Christopher Slaughter, Daniel Bunts, T. J. Kozik, Lino Orosco, daughters, Carmen Otero, Jesse Otero, Ida Orosco, Tori Kozik, mother, Ruby Castro, brothers, Manny Otero, Danny Otero, Leonel Castro, Louie Castro, Robert Castro, Steve Castro, Rudy Castro, sisters, Rosie Lopez, Ida Diaz, Lucinda Ulibarri, Ruby Chapman, Sylvia Garcia, Julie Hernandez, Corina Salcido, Elaine Castro, Terry Barrajas and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Manuel Otero and Louis Castro, father-in-law, Ruben Ulibarri, mother-in-law, Annie Ulibarri, brother-in-law, David Ulibarri, sisters-in-law, Gloria Ulibarri and Ruby Ulibarri, niece, Alicia Otero Norman, and sisters, Margie Valdez and Leticia Valdez. A Viewing will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 at Burnham Mortuary. Rosary will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Springerville, with a Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral mass at the Springerville Cemetery.
