Janice Fay Wakefield, our angel wife and mother, age 73, passed away peacefully at Haven of Lakeside, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in St. Johns, August 22, 1943, to Joy William Waite and Ida Fay Davis. She was the third of three children and the only girl in the family. She married her sweetheart, Ernest Wakefield in the Mesa Temple on December 29, 1967. Jan received an Associate’s Degree from Lambson Business School. She held many different jobs, but the one she is most remembered for is working in the St. Johns Jr. High Cafeteria. Many children still remember her fondly as “the lunch lady.” She had kindness for any living thing and stray animals often found their way into our home for an extended stay. She loved to walk every morning and enjoyed many family hikes to Havasupai. She had many hobbies, including quilting, cross-stitch, rock collecting and toll painting. She had a beautiful laugh and loved to play practical jokes and have others join in her fun. She truly loved life. Her greatest joys are her children and grandchildren. She rarely missed their games and was their biggest cheerleader in all they were doing. She was a very proud Grandma! Jan is survived by her loving husband, Ernie, two children, Shawn (Candace) Wakefield, Nicole (Cannon) Smith, 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Sean), Adrienne, Alyson, Cassidy, Cambria, Jaiden, Mckay, Star, Kailey, Levi, 1 great grandchild, Boston and two older brothers, George (Erma) Waite, and Keith (Stella) Waite. We want to express our deep appreciation and thanks to the Hospice Compassus nurses and the Haven of Lakeside caretakers who truly loved Mom and saw the special woman she was. Their special care blessed her life and ours as a family. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the funeral services at the St. Johns Cemetery.
