Dale Sherman Davis, 83, a lifelong resident of St. Johns passed away Monday, September 26, 2016. Dale was born December 9, 1932 in St. Johns, the son of Mark Seymour Davis and Lucy Ellen Burk Davis.
Dale married Ruth Aul Davis on July 1, 1953 in the Mesa Arizona Temple and together they raised their family in St. Johns. Dale’s greatest joy and happiness was his family and his constant concern for his children and grandchildren was always evident. The love that he had for his family was never questioned; Dale made it very clear with his kind-hearted, soft-spoken demeanor. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an unwavering testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. He served diligently in the church throughout his life, most recently with his wife as the Snowflake Temple cleaning coordinators, representing the St. Johns Stake; a calling that Dale and Ruth both loved.
Dale was a rancher and farmer and worked in and around St. Johns his entire life, retiring from Shreeve & Associates Surveying. After his dad’s passing he operated the Davis Ranch and farm with his wife, children and extended family.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, siblings, Della Gibbons, Wayne Davis and LaRae Bradburn; and great-grandson, JD Lofing.
Dale will be greatly missed by those that survive him. He is survived by his sons, Mark (Vicki) Davis, Taylor; Derek (Vicki) Davis, St. Johns; Douglas (Heatherlea) Davis, Mesa; daughters, Liane (David) Carmichael, Gilbert; Gena (Mark) Sherwood, Kirtland, New Mexico; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, JoAn Gibbons and Esther Davis; and brother-in-law, Jack Gibbons.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Downtown Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
