Kay McCray Leverton, 76, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 in Phoenix. She was born March 16, 1940 in St. Johns, the daughter of Dexter Lee and Euphmia Berry McCray.
Kay was a hair dresser and a rancher. She enjoyed her customers and took very good care of her ladies. She enjoyed singing and photography but her greatest joy was her cows, horses, dogs and cats. Kay and her twin sister, Kathy were very close all 76 years they were together. Kay enjoyed singing with Kathy. Kay was a part owner of the Safire Restaurant in Springerville for 17 years and belonged to the Salem Ward in St. Johns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kay was very patriotic and loved her country and the American flag.
She is survived by her twin sister, Kathy Reidhead, “almost my girls” ShaeLynn, Shelly, Rhonda, sisters, Colleen McCray, Correen Magee and brothers, Terry McCray and Phillip McCray.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Leverton, parents, brothers, Lee McCray, Quentin McCray, Kelly McCray, Deaton McCray, W.G. “Babe” McCray, Douglas McCray, Bill McCray, sisters-in-law, Jean McCray, Hazel McCray, Nancy McCray, sisters, Sibyl Plumb, Lorna Scarbrough, Anna Prentice and brothers-in-law, Delbert Plumb and Jake Scarbrough.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Downtown Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the funeral services at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
