Mina Ruth Sherwood Eagar passed away Friday, May 6, 2016 in Phoenix. She was born 101 years ago on May 3, 1915 the daughter of Dan Junius and Sophronia Brown Sherwood in St. Johns. She was the fourth of fourteen children and is the tenth to return home.
Mina spent her school years down on the “The Ranch” in Richville and graduated from St. Johns High School. She was married to Byron B. Eagar on May 18, 1935 in Holbrook and sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple in February 1937. They were happily married for 62 years and had four children born to them: Robert B., Terry S., Dixie and Mina Sue. They spent many happy years together in Phoenix, Mesa and Eagar with some summers in Nutrioso and Arkansas and a year in Bisbee too. The also spent many happy times at the cabin at Cholla Bay, Mexico with friends. Mina was a temple worker in the Mesa Temple and loved the time spent there. Over the years she also served as Relief Society, Primary and Mutual President as well as many other callings. She was a friend to all. Anyone who needed a warm meal or bed was always welcomed. She was famous for her delicious bread, divinity and many other treats. Because of her quick wit, a visit with Mina was always fun and memorable.
Mina was preceded in death by her husband, son, Robert and grandchildren, Shaun, Shauna and Christopher Jolley.
She is survived by her children, Anne Eagar, Terry (Lorene) Eagar, Dixie (John) Gibson, Mina Sue (LaVon) Jolley, 19 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 36 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Amity Building, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the funeral services at the Eagar Cemetery.
